Picnic Point Park – Stormwater Extension

Picnic Point Park, Maroochydore

Sunshine Coast Council

Project SummaRy

The Goal

The goal of this project was to deliver a durable, storm-resilient outfall solution for Picnic Point Park's twin stormwater pipes, clearing the way for Council to safely proceed with planned beach nourishment works.

The Challenge

A key challenge was carrying out the pipe works within an active tidal zone, where fluctuating water levels demanded careful scheduling around low-tide windows. Our team also had to protect the Maroochy River from any sediment or concrete run-off while working around a dense network of underground services along the foreshore.

The Solution

We extended and encased the stormwater outfall pipes using engineered geotextile sand containers, tied in with concrete collars, then placed rock armour scour protection around the outfall. All in-water work was carefully staged around the tides to protect the surrounding waterway.

The Result

The upgraded outfall now gives Sunshine Coast Council long-term protection against erosion and scour, clearing the way for beach nourishment works to proceed. The project was handed over with zero defects, and the site was fully reinstated for community use.
