Buderim - Sunshine Coast
The primary goal of this project was to safely remove uncontrolled fill and re-establish a stabilised embankment and retaining wall. This remediation work was essential to protect and preserve the heritage-listed Buderim Historic Tramway Trail following a landslide event.
A major challenge of this project was navigating highly constrained site access, limited to a single private driveway. Our team had to carefully manage heavy machinery and material deliveries on steep, unstable terrain while minimising disruption to nearby residents, and ensuring the surrounding flora, fauna and heritage assets were strictly protected.
To resolve the access and stability issues, we followed a carefully staged construction sequence. We mobilised specialised equipment to drill and install deep concrete bored piers, anchoring them securely into the underlying rock. We then constructed a robust, multi-tiered sandstone block retaining wall, paired with controlled backfilling and compaction to safely rebuild the embankment.
The Buderim community now benefits from a fully stabilised and safe environment. We reconstructed the embankment, upgraded the stormwater drainage to divert water away from the site, and reconditioned the gravel trail. With environmental stabilisation works complete, including matting and revegetation, the heritage trail is preserved and protected against future weather events.
