Black Spot Safety Upgrade – Old Gympie Road – Beerburrum

Glasshouse Mountains

Sunshine Coast Council

Project SummaRy

The Goal

The primary goal of this project was to improve safety for road users and pedestrians by reconfiguring the intersection to enhance line-of-sight and manage traffic speeds. Additionally, the upgrade aims to increase the area's flood immunity through comprehensive drainage improvements.

The Challenge

A main challenge of this project was keeping the intersection open to local traffic while safely carrying out the road upgrades. Our team also had to carefully coordinate works around live existing infrastructure, including a major underground trunk water main.

The Solution

To resolve the safety and visibility issues, we successfully realigned the major road and constructed a new channelised right-turn lane. We also installed upgraded concrete culverts and rebuilt the pavement, delivering a modernised intersection with much better flood immunity.

The Result

The local Beerburrum community now benefits from a much safer, highly visible intersection. The upgraded road alignment and improved drainage ensure long-term resilience against flooding, providing a smoother and more reliable route for all road users.
